October 15-21 — Four Headlining Fashion Shows to Showcase Chicago Designers In Millennium Park and the Chicago Cultural Center

(CHICAGO)  Fashion Focus Chicago 2012 returns for its eighth year October 15-21 for a week-long celebration of Chicago’s thriving fashion industry while showcasing some of its top designers.  Highlights include an opening night runway show in the Chicago Cultural  Center and three headlining runway shows in Millennium Park.  Fashion Focus will also feature a variety of free and affordable fashion events, industry happenings, shopping and designer events at various locations around the city.

Headlining shows revealed and a call-out to Chicago’s fashion community Monday, October 17 through Sunday, October 23.

Fashion Focus Chicago, a week-long celebration of Chicago’s thriving fashion industry, returns for a seventh year in 2011. Taking place Monday, October 17 through Sunday, October 23, Fashion Focus Chicago showcases some of the city’s top designers, and features runway shows in Millennium Park and at various locations around the city, plus a variety of free and affordable shopping events and industry happenings. There are four headlining shows this year on Tuesday, October 18; Wednesday, October 19; Thursday, October 20; and Friday, October 21. The week’s activities are coordinated and directed by the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture (COTC).

5th Annual Chicago Sidewalk Sale Returns to Daley Plaza on July 19 and 20, 2011

Daley Plaza on July 19 and 20, 2011 — Shop local designers and independent boutiques during the FREE two-day outdoor fashion event.

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in partnership with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture present the fifth annual Chicago Sidewalk Sale at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St. The two-day shopping event, held on Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday, July 20 from 9 am to 3 pm, will be the perfect place to peruse an assortment of affordable apparel and accessories and see first-hand how local designers and independent boutiques are thriving in Chicago.

With over 40 participants showcasing hats and handbags to shirts and shoes to ties and tees; the Chicago Sidewalk Sale will offer head-to-toe Chicago looks for anyone and everyone. In addition to the shopping, a summer-inspired runway show will take place at 12 pm on both days featuring the latest styles from the participating fashion talent.

Home to over 400 local designers and 300 independent boutiques, Chicago boasts one of the most creative communities in the country. The City of Chicago’s Fashion Initiative, started by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2006, partners with the industry on resources and high-profile events for local designers and independent boutiques to gain visibility, learn about the business of fashion, and elevate the industry.
